Wie auch letztes Jahr durfte ich als Sprecher auf der Games Convention Developer Conference (GCDC) in Leipzig sprechen. Neben dem Announcement der diesjährigen Java Master-Gewinner (ein kurzer Bericht kann hier gefunden werden) durfte ich für Sun ein neues Projekt vorstellen. Project Darkstar, ein Projekt aus den Laboren von meinem Arbeitgeber Sun Microsystems, ist ein Endgeräte- und Spiel-agnostischer Game Server. Laut einem heutigen Artikel des Online Magazins TelecomTV mit dem Namen "Mobile games to remain a niche market" von Guy Daniels hat der Analyst Frost & Sullivan einen neuen Report über Mobile Gaming in Europa veröffentlicht. Zwar sagt Frost, dass der Markt weiter wachsen wird - nach wie vor aber in einer Nische verharren wird. Grund dafür sei das breite Plattformangebot, dass es teuer macht, für jedes Handy ein Spiel verfügbar zu haben (weil sich die Handy zu stark in Auflösung des Bildschirms und Feature unterscheiden) und auch die komplizierte Portalstruktur zum Download von Spielen...
